It’s been a week filled with new releases, from video games that have completed their early access phase to others that have just debuted. In our beloved Weekly Recap, we cover the releases and some news from the week.
Regarding our own content, we featured an Indie Showcase featuring 10 genuine RPGs that you should not miss. Additionally, we provided some really interesting overviews and reviewed both Wildfrost and the newly released Kriegsfront Tactics Prologue.
News and Announcements
We start with Shuffle Tactics, an intriguing tactical RPG with deck-building mechanics and delightful pixel art. It was announced yesterday that its public demo will be released on July 24th. This game is definitely one of the most interesting titles, and you can find more details here.

Another tactical game that announced its exit from early access this week is Artifice: War Tactics. This interesting strategy game requires players to use the map’s elements and each unit’s abilities to emerge victorious. It has been in early access since November 2023 and will officially become version 1.0 on August 16th. The last relevant news is the new video released by the developers of Metal Slug Tactics.
In this video diary, developers from Dotemu, Leikir Studio, and SNK reflect on the iconic METAL SLUG series and introduce its upcoming grid-based tactical RPG adaptation. The video features original hand-drawn art and gameplay from previous titles while highlighting how Metal Slug Tactics retains the series’ signature excitement through a fresh tactical approach. The game will be available on multiple platforms, including Nintendo Switch, PlayStation, Xbox, and Steam, later this year. Watch the video diary here.
Top RPG and Strategy Games Releases
The first turn-based game I propose is the quite original Union of Gnomes. It is a deck-building game in which players embody gnomes and must kick out the fairy tale heroes we grew up with Snow White, Pinocchio, The Wizard of Oz, and many others. It looks intriguing, but it also tugs at my heartstrings…..

Leaving the world of fairy tales and venturing into deep space, we encounter Relic Space. A narrative tactical game with a good dose of realism due to its combat system mechanics that include damage to different parts of the ships, engine problems, and much more. The title was in early access, and you can now enjoy the final version.
Coming out of early access this week is USC: Counterforce, a must-try title for all tactical combat enthusiasts. In this game, players take on the role of Space Commandos facing an alien threat. You can have fun blowing up every single element on the map. There’s also a tactical game with giant mechs that we reviewed, or rather, there’s a free prologue to try out, which gives a good idea of what to expect. Kriegsfront Tactics: Prologue features political intrigues and a combat system that obviously calls to mind the one and only Front Mission.

Another prologue we discussed and debuted this week is Escape from Ever After Onboarding. This prologue introduces the game world in this colorful and fun JRPG, which is based on exploration and mini-game-filled combat.
If you’re looking for an exciting sandbox experience, you might be interested in Gobs and Gods. It’s a tactical RPG with open exploration where players guide Goblin tribes, featuring mechanics similar to Battle Brothers. I’ve mentioned it several times recently, and here’s our overview. Moving on to Pennon and Battles, a strategy game in the style of Heroes of Might and Magic, which just launched in Early Access this week.
We leave behind wickedness, clashes, and all kinds of monsters to enjoy something more relaxing with TerraScape. A city-builder where players must wisely use different tiles to obtain bonuses and build medieval cities on floating islands is certainly a title to relax with.

And finally, we have Space Prison, an RPG that immerses the player in a space prison filled with the worst the universe has to offer. The player must establish relationships with the different gangs within the facility, attempt to carve out a social position and make an escape. We are actually exploring its tactical combat and deep social mechanics and aim to release a review as soon as possible.
That’s all I have to tell you this week. Now I’m off to Tacticon 2024 because I’ve spotted some demos I need to try, with my trusty fan by my side. I wish you a great weekend. Ciao
